Collective vs Personal unconscious
Collective unconscious is the unconscious mind in all life forms with nervous systems. This unconscious is the inherited reservoir of memory traces from our species history. Jung thought this explained the religious beliefs and instincts passed down for generations. The personal unconscious is the things we have pushed out of our confidence that we have learned/ experienced throughout our lifetime. Jung uses these two parts of the unconscious to distinguish the layers and depth of the unconscious mind.
